The primary threat will be downburst winds in the 40-60 mph range that could cause damage to trees or power lines. Some hail could also occur. Georgia Weather History for May 9th

In 2002, severe thunderstorms across north Georgia caused an estimated $200,000 in damage from the northern Atlanta suburbs to Lake Hartwell along the Georgia and South Carolina border. Numerous reports of trees blown down and hail between dime and golf ball size were reported. Lightning caused fires severely damaged homes in Tucker and Belmont (Dekalb County).
